TestRay Cloud is Now Built on Atlassian Forge

Atlassian is in the middle of a platform-wide shift: every app in the Marketplace is being required to move from Connect, the older app framework, to Forge — a fundamentally different, more secure way of building inside Jira and Confluence. It's one of the more significant changes happening in the Atlassian ecosystem right now, and it's worth understanding regardless of which apps you use.

TestRay Cloud completed that migration on 16 July 2026.

What Forge actually changes

Connect apps have historically run on infrastructure the vendor controls, with fairly broad access to a customer's Atlassian data in order to function. Forge apps work differently: the code runs inside Atlassian's own sandboxed environment, using Atlassian's APIs and security model, rather than on the vendor's own servers reaching out to Jira.

In practice, that means Forge apps operate with narrower, more controlled access to customer data, faster response times since there's no separate vendor-hosted layer for requests to travel through, and tighter integration with the rest of Jira's UI and workflow.

Why this matters if you're choosing a Jira app

Atlassian has set a deadline for every Marketplace app to make this move — it isn't optional, and it isn't close. Some vendors will migrate early and carefully. Others will wait until the deadline forces their hand, or won't migrate cleanly at all.

Whether a vendor treats this proactively is a reasonable proxy for how they treat the rest of their engineering: are they keeping pace with the platform, or reacting to it at the last minute? For teams evaluating test management tools, security posture, and how seriously a vendor invests in staying current, this kind of migration is a small but real data point.

What this means if you're already a TestRay Cloud customer

Nothing changes in how TestRay works. Every requirement, test case, test plan, and configuration is exactly as it was — this is a change to the underlying platform, not to your data or workflows.

The migration itself was designed to be seamless: TestRay ran on both Connect and Forge in parallel throughout the transition, so there was no downtime, no disruption, and no forced cutover moment. Customers can move to the Forge version whenever suits them, up until the 28 August deadline.

The one thing customers need to do: update TestRay to the latest version before 28 August 2026, after which the Connect version is no longer supported. Full instructions were sent by email to all TestRay Cloud customers; if you didn't receive them reach out through the TestRay Support Portal.

Does this affect my data if I'm a TestRay Cloud customer?

No. Requirements, test cases, test plans, and configurations are completely untouched by this migration.

Does this affect TestRay Data Center?

No. This migration is specific to TestRay Cloud. Data Center is a separate deployment model and isn't affected.

Is this a TestRay-specific change, or something bigger?

It's ecosystem-wide. Atlassian is requiring every Marketplace app to migrate from Connect to Forge. TestRay has completed that move ahead of the deadline.

Why should this matter to me if I'm not a TestRay customer?
